Body Positivity

What does body positivity mean to you?

It's a big question, right? It's a very personal question and it can only be answered by you.

I don't write think pieces a lot anymore, quite simply because there are so many who can voice it better than I but what I can and will do is relay my own experiences and hope that it maybe helps even one person feel a little more positive about their own body.

Throughout my life, since childhood, I was the chubby kid. Chunky and big boned were words frequently used to describe my pre adolescent body. When I hit secondary school it became even more frequent an occurance, in fact, it became a taunt. I had a big butt, wide hips and a round face. Or so everyone around me seemed to have me believe. I was an easy target for bullies, they knew my soft spot, the one little tiny opening for causing hurt and people weren't afraid to use it as a weapon. This was only made worse by family who would comment on my weight citing my health as a concern. By the time I was headed into 3rd year it was starting to affect my self esteem and confidence hugely.

Hot Tips for a Quick Blow Dry

I'm forever on a quest to achieve that 'slightly styled but low maintenance' blow dry look at home. Up until now I've had limited success. Between hair gadgets and appliances that promise a quick dry, salon sleek 'do, through to shampoos that promise quick dry and frizz free, I've tried it all. Until now every single product I've tried to reduce frizz has come up incredibly short. Unless I used heavy duty straighteners I simply could not achieve anything close to smooth hair.

All of that changed recently when I had the chance to trial a few new products. It just so happened that they had all arrived in and around the same time and all seemed to offer round about the same promise: quick dry hair and a smoothing ability, with the additional promise of being a little more caring for my hair. I was doubtful initially, my hair chronicles are well documented in this house and my frustration has piqued many times over so would they actually deliver?

Face Masks for Cold Weather Conditions

All Summer long I look forward to the cosy Winter months. Does that make me the worst? I simply prefer the hygge that the colder months afford us. The hot water bottles, endless cups of hot tea, hunkering down under a soft blanket with the latest series I'm hooked on. Bliss! What I always tend to forget though is that the Winter months wreak havoc on my poor skin. Between being blasted with central heating, being flushed from the heat of the open fire and then getting lashed with rain, hail, sleet and (on a rare occasion) snow and that's not even mentioning the cold wind that feels as though it could cut right through you, our skin goes through a LOT in Winter so it's only right if I'm pampering myself with a little hygge in the evenings I should be affording my skin the same luxury.

It stands to reason then that I've taken to doing a face mask every other night so today I'm going to take you through the face masks I've been using to combat the cold weather conditions and the effect they have on my skin.

The emphasis has been on hydration and masks that help with stressed skin and I've discovered some new gems as well as revisiting old favourites.
